Will Smith Interviewed

I don’t know if you believe in “metaphysical mumbo-jumbo” or not, but this is a pretty cool interview with Will Smith. I like what he says about being on the treadmill . . .

    John,

Thanks for that…this is something I’ve been both putting a lot of study time into lately and struggling to wrap my head around. I can see what Will is saying and it makes perfect sense on a logical level but how does one really turn this into a deep-seated, emotional belief?

I know personal development is one of the markets you’re in and have a personal interest in. I would really enjoy hearing about your journey and what resources have made the most impact on your life. Thanks.

    Brandon -

In part it’s consistent effort and application in that direction. The other part is this: the idea of “thinking and growing rich” and “positive thinking” is a limitation, at best.

Here’s why - the greatest thought you will EVER have is a thing of limitation - your potential will always be greater than that thought. That’s a deep concept and runs counter to all the people who tout books like “Think and Grow Rich” - millions have read the book, but how many are rich? A fraction - thinking and obsessing about being rich helps some, but makes countless more miserable and frustrated.

Real power is recognizing that you have resistance towards anything that you do, or do not do. If a person lacks for money it’s because they have resistance to it - they have resistance to doing what it takes to having it. This resistance may not be conscious, but it’s there.

Resistance is a feeling; resistance is a feeling that is the accumulation of thoughts. What would take years to unravel through psycho-analysis can be undone in minutes by recognizing the underlying feeling and “letting it go”. This process of letting go of resistance then makes you more efficient - if you let go of resistance to work, you accomplish more, faster and with much less effort.

If you “want” something in life, you have resistance to “having” it. You cannot have something and want for it simultaneously. With all things that you have, there was a time that you wanted it - if the resistance was low, ie, it cost $10 to get it - then you attained it easily. There was a feeling that you could have it and the cost is low to you - if you want something that costs $100,000, notice how you FEEL differently about that. That’s resistance. You can think positively about it or your potential to create that money, but until you FEEL it and resolve ALL feelings of resistance you will remain stuck.

Will power is necessary in the process. With what Will is saying - he won’t be outworked - that’s will power. If you feel that you will not be outworked, then look at the sense of power that gives you. It’s not a thought - because anyone can have that thought and not follow through on it. It’s not an idea - it’s a feeling and an action. It sets a different level of expectation and you begin thinking FROM that which you desire instead of OF that which you desire - you are a part of it, versus you are looking at it from the outside.

In general, I recommend people think a whole lot less and act on feelings a whole lot more - and resolve those feelings which are disablers.

I don’t know about you, but the more I think about some things the less likely I am to take action.
Thought has it’s place - of course - but action, being in motion and removing resistance is power.
