Build Your Lists Fast - Free

May 28th, 2009

This is a concept that’s challenging to embrace for some people.

Have you ever seen the old-school ad that shows two men riding the New York subway?  They have the same face, but one man is dressed very well - an obvious success in life.  The other is dressed shabbily and on his way to work a day labor type job.

The difference between the two?  One reads the Wall Street Journal and the other does not.

This is the Gospel Truth . . .

I worked for two companies who sell essentially the same product and they began their businesses at the same time.  Business A actually began with greater financial resources and the experience of selling millions of dollars worth of product through direct marketing.  Business B started in a garage and without those resources or experience.

But business B recognized the power of partnerships and established relationships with other complementary businesses.  He promoted his partners products to his prospect lists and they did the same for him.  Business A refused to promote anyone else.  For one he believed his product was so spectacular that nobody else was good enough.  For another he had a lack mentality and feared losing his *prospects* to someone else.

Business A stunted his growth and as a result does about 1/3 the volume of business that business B now does.

The Moral of This Story

If you convert insanely well then you will get 5-10% of all site visitors to buy something from you.  That’s great.

And then . . . there’s the other 90-95% who’ve come and gone.  And that’s a missed opportunity.  Instead of ONLY focusing on those people who join your list and / or buy from you, you want to get whatever you can out of that VAST majority.

What if you could get a penny - a nickel - a dime - a dollar out of each of those people who just come and go?

Or what if you could build credits that help you gain subscribers from people leaving OTHER PEOPLE’S sites?

My First REAL List Building Success

In my first three years online I built a list of about 890 subscribers.  This was long before I figured out ANY of what I teach today.

THREE YEARS to achieve that.

Then a friend turned me on to a service where I placed a little code on my site and when someone left my page an exit popup appeared.  The popup did 2 things for me - one, I received credits in the system which showed my co-registration offer on other people’s sites and two, it started to build my list FAST.  In less than three months the size of my list doubled.  And it kept doubling on autopilot.

Unfortunately the owner of the service decided to pull the plug after a couple of years.  This thing REALLY WORKED.

Long story short, he’s revamped everything and planning a relaunch soon.  Since I was so successful with the original version of his system he’s invited me as a beta-tester and also given me the go ahead to invite others to join.

Since this is a multilevel credit system (it’s free to join and use) getting in early and promoting it to your friends means you can start building up a lot of credits - and that means free subscribers.

Right now, I don’t know how this is going to fly with Aweber and the other autoresonder services.  But based on my past experience this is something you want to get in on and run with.

What’s Up With Marlon Sanders . . .

May 8th, 2009

Been a while since I’ve posted on Black Books Blog.

I was snooping around one of the rip off sites and read this post referring to the Affiliate Black Book’s copy:

OK…2 questions from the sales page.
backgammon free casino money free craps game play free black jack craps video poker strategy play black jack online how to win video poker casino game online uk best casino online casino secure online gambling jackpot casino online casino black jack learn to play craps how to win at video poker craps online blackjack casino game online casino betting free on line video poker casino games no download casino online gambling casino play free casino slots video poker machine bonus video poker free on line slots double bonus video poker free video poker games free casinos roulette online craps rules free on line casino rules of craps online casino free money blackjack 21 internet casino how to play craps free casino game download fortunelounge online casino free casino download free casino card game free roulette game free casino play no deposit free money casino internet casino online 1. he talks a big deal about how he has tracking in place for the product so he can tell if its being passed around to “friends” any truth to this that anyone can see ???
2. his COPY
he goes on the usual X tangent about how gurus are all a-holes and such.  then talks about the typical “big name” endorsements and such…..

then MARLON SANDERS  pops into :w00t: :-D
isnt marlon part-owned by yanik and mike filsaime ???  seems very strange he would just totally negate everything by having a marlon testimonail…shame on X

and i say this as a rather big fan of X

First, yes I have tracking in place and there are two lawsuits in process against people I’ve tracked as sharing my material.  (The rich will end up richer).

Second, I don’t think I bag on the “gurus” (in this sales letter) but instead those who’ve grossly borrowed from my style and ideas to the point of actually changing their names.  Seriously, I thought Andrew Fox was a pretty well established “guru”, so WTF is he doing changing his name to Andrew X?  I guess I should be flattered - somehow I’m not.

No, I don’t have any big name guru testimonials on the site and the sites that do that almost always lose my sale - I really don’t care what your circle jerk buddies think of you and your product.  I want to hear something real.

OK, then there’s Marlon.

I’m not some guy who says “I hate all the gurus - piss on them all just ‘cuz”.  No, I just say “piss on some of them”.

There are some guys out there ( a lot of them actually ) who don’t offer more than lukewarm piles of shit.

I believe in offering something better than that and have done my best to ensure that anything I sell or recommend is good - that it works.  I have no respect for those who sell crap.

I admit that I know very little about the products that Marlon sells.  But I do know Marlon.  We met at a seminar and we’ve talked on the phone a number of times.  And all I can say is this . . .

He’s smart as hell and funnier than the devil in his little outfit (I’m talking about the devil’s little outfit, not Marlon’s).  And I sure don’t see Marlon as a part of the Internet marketing equivelant of the Back Street Boys.  As a marketer I think he CRUSHES Mike Filsaime or Yanik Silver.  Although I’ve never met Yanik, I can say I’d rather sit at lunch with Marlon than either Filsaime or Silver - Marlon is just a sharp, sharp marketing mind.

Not that Filsaime and Silver don’t have anything to offer (I learn from everyone and I’ve learned from them both), but it’s kind of like asking “Would you rather have lunch with Reagan or ‘W’”?  Sure, ‘W’ is a cocky little fuck who thinks he’s all that but a few of us know better, don’t we.  You go with the classic.  Yeah, it’s like Classic Coke versus New Coke.

Or maybe, stranded on a desert island with a bunch of well-off natives but no computer, no list, no money and no phone which of the three is most likely to survive - I’m going with Marlon - unless we’ve got Hyundai’s to sell, then maybe I pick Filsaime.  Maybe.

I don’t need to defend Marlon.  I just found it . . .  a weird post.  Like, “Dude - you serious?”

I get the point our friend is referencing and I can understand how it might be out of place in an X sales letter.  I guess *I* don’t see Marlon that way - at all.

An Average Day For X

March 7th, 2009

I had someone write and ask to see what one of time sheets look like.  Because that’s a surprisingly personal thing to me and wouldn’t make much sense anyway I’m just going to share how my time breaks down, generally.

First, keeping a running journal of how you spend your time is very useful because A) you’ll identify things that aren’t effective and optimal in your usage of time and B) you’ll begin to notice trends in what you do best when.

For example, I have a family so my schedule isn’t as wide open as it used to be.  It doesn’t matter when I go to bed, my kids are going to have me up at 5AM and usually once or twice during the night.  They don’t care if I go to bed at 10 or 1AM. When it’s time to get up, it’s time to get up.

Family time is priority 1A in my life, so that means I work an 8-5 schedule when I’m busy - and 10-4 schedule when less busy.

By keeping my time journal I’ve found that I’m a slow starter - my brain becomes active in the late morning and I’m most motivated to work in the afternoon.  Without kids, I’d probably work well in the evening too.

The key with the journal is to be brutally honest - no judgment on it.  You do what you do.  You might SAY you value something else, but what you DO is what you are placing value on.  Usually that’s happening unconsciously.  Being brutally honest allows you to see your behaviors in an objective way and creating a plan around that which works for you.

So I’ve learned to play on what works for me and that’s probably going to be different for you.

Here’s my rough schedule:

8:00 - 8:30    Get to office, orient my day, manage outsourcers.

If I don’t have a plan and a to-do list the day is usually an ineffective disaster.

8:30 - 9:30  New learning.

I like to get new ideas into my head to start the day.  This time used to be wasted on ESPN, reading the news, etc.  I recognized the existing drive to read/learn, and replaced the junk with something more advancing.

9:30 - 11:00 Write.

When I have new ideas that’s a good time to write.  Maybe that’s new training material, a new product, copy, or work instructions for outsourcers.  Depends on what I’m inspired to do and what I want to accomplish in my day.

11:00-12:00  Communication.

Email, phone calls, support tickets I need to answer, etc.

12:00-1:00  Lunch.

I admit this is the weak spot in my day.  I rarely take this time - I eat at my desk. I have a treadmill in my office and a laptop setup on it so I can get some exercise.  Exercise really makes a huge difference for me.

1:00-4:00  Selling and marketing.

This should be a bigger block of my day, but this is specifically looking for new offers to make to my lists and setting up those promotions.  This isn’t article writing, putting together websites, or “passive marketing” - this is going directly for sales.  I think this is the single best thing you can do to ramp up your income.

4:00-4:30  Loose ends

4:30-5:00 Plan next day, clean up, final email check, de-compress before going home.

Some days I’m great at sticking with my plan and some days I’m not.  Some days I just can’t for a variety of reasons.

I highly recommend tracking your time because it will give you some real insight into yourself that might surprise you.  I’ve come to the conclusion that different people work well with different time rules - one size does not fit all.

I work best in short, intense bursts.  3 hours being the max and as the weather here in Arizona gets warmer I’ll probably break my day into 2, 3-hour segments.  That’s another thing I’ve found works REALLY well for me - only giving myself 3 hours to get everything on my to-do list done.  I can usually accomplish 75% of those tasks that I used to take all day to do - but there is no outside influence allowed.

Google Cash Killer

February 3rd, 2009

Right now this is just a rumor, but I’ve heard from enough credible sources to say it’s a sure thing coming.

Google Adwords will soon be implementing a new rule that requires the display URL and destination URL reside on the same URL.

In case it’s not obvious, that means that using an affiliate link to point to a domain name you don’t know isn’t going to fly much longer.

This is another obvious move on Google’s part to weed out affiliates who don’t contribute value to the sales process.  And it also impacts a few things I’ve been doing / had included in the Affiliate Black Book.

What this means is what I’ve been teaching people all along: you need to have your own site, your own sales process.  You need to take control because “they” are out to exterminate you.

You’ve been warned.
